As Vice President of Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Iris Galanis Eshoo oversees all food safety, quality assurance, and product & process improvement, as well as, research and development functions for See’s Candies, Inc.
See’s Candies is an American manufacturer, distributor and retailer of confectionary goods, that was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1921. In 1972 the company was acquired by Warren Buffett‘s Berkshire Hathaway Corporation. Iris’s scope of responsibilities includes: food safety oversight of See’s Manufacturing plants, Packing Plants, Warehousing, Shipping, Mail Order, and 250+ retail stores. In addition, training and education of associates, product innovation, food safety oversight of dozens of food suppliers, and regulatory compliance also come under her purview.
Prior to joining See’s in 2013, Iris was the Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance for The Cheesecake Factory Bakery, where she worked for 14-years. While at The Cheesecake Factory Bakery, she wore many different hats, including start-up of a Performance Development and Training department, Safety and Compliance Departments before she was appointed head of the Food Safety and Regulatory department. During her tenure with the company, she also played a key role in the start-up of a state-of-the-art facility on the east coast.
Iris has been a past speaker for the American Society of Quality. She holds memberships with several professional associations, including International Association of Food Protection and the Institute of Food Technologists. She received her BS in Biochemistry from the California State University of Long Beach and her Master of Food Science and Nutrition from Chapman University in Orange, California.
A native of Greece, Iris speaks 4-languages and has lived in countries on 3-different continents. She passionately embraces cultural diversity and understands the challenges that come with instilling a culture of food safety, when there are language barriers present and varying levels of education.
